Design & Engineering Process
To tackle these problems, I started with sketches and basic concept models, focusing on how to make the tunnels both pet-friendly and user-friendly. Rapid iterative prototyping played a crucial role, allowing me to test different shapes, locking mechanisms, and ventilation designs. By using 3D printing, I could quickly refine ideas, ensuring that each version improved upon the last.
A major breakthrough came with the secure clip system, designed with a live hinge for durability and ease of use. Through multiple iterations, I refined the hinge’s flexibility and strength, ensuring it could withstand repeated use without breaking. The final design balances a strong, secure connection with effortless assembly and disassembly, making it both safe for pets and convenient for owners.
